Paired speargun band, 14,5 mm in diameter and 20 cm working length, by Picasso. It is supplied as a pair and drives a band speargun: loading stores energy that is transferred to the shaft on release. Working length is chosen according to barrel length, diameter according to the desired shot power and shaft thickness.
A thicker band gives a stronger and faster shot but requires more force to load and wears the mechanism faster; a thinner one loads more easily and is more precise at short range. Bands are a consumable part and are replaced when they lose elasticity, when cracks appear on the surface, or when a drop in shot power compared with new condition is noticed. Rinse them in fresh water after diving and store them out of direct sunlight.
