Mares 3 mm neoprene socks are worn under fins and with a wetsuit. Their first job is not warmth but protection: neoprene between the foot and the fin prevents blisters on the heel and instep, which on longer swims appear within an hour.
The second job is warmth — the foot is one of the parts of the body that cools fastest in the sea, because it is constantly moving and sits deepest. Choose socks so that the fin still fits firmly; if buying them for existing full foot fins, you usually need to go one size up on the fins. After the sea, rinse the socks in fresh water and dry them inside out, in the shade.
