JOTUN MARE NOSTRUM SP is an effective self-polishing antifouling paint for boats designed to protect the underwater part of the hull from fouling. The product uses a special combination of binders and ion-exchange technology that allows the active surface of the coating to be maintained during use. Jotun states a reduced washout layer, an all-season effect and the ability to be applied over most other antifouling coating technologies. Mare Nostrum SP is intended for boats with previously coated surfaces, while it is not recommended for boats that sail exclusively in fresh water. For aluminum hulls, Jotun recommends only white paint as part of an approved system.

JOTUN MARE NOSTRUM SP is a single-component coating that can be applied by roller, brush or spray, with Jotun recommending roller application with control of the required dry film thickness. The technical data sheet states a dry matter content of approximately 50%, a recommended dry film thickness of 40 to 100 µm per coat and a theoretical coverage of approximately 10 to 4.2 m²/l, depending on the thickness of the coating. Two coats are recommended for a new vessel, while one coat of 40 µm per year is specified for maintenance. The time required for immersion depends on the temperature of the substrate and, according to the technical data sheet, is between 8 and 30 hours.
